A world leader in the design and development of ATEX and IECEx equipment for the offshore oil and gas industry, Orga’s industry-first Circle-H LED touchdown, positioning and heliport identification marking system is a certified circle and H lighting system that can be safely and reliably installed in Zone 1 and 2 hazardous areas.

Developed in collaboration with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) to improve visibility for pilots in all weather conditions, Orga’s CAP 437 -compliant Circle-H offshore helideck lighting system is dual certified to ATEX and IECEx directives.

The official ATEX certificate number is DEKRA 11 ATEX0186 and carries product marking  [expr] II 2 G Ex e mb [ib] IIC T6 Gb i.e. Orga’s Circle-H lighting panels are certified for installation in category 2G, Group II, Zone 1 & 2 explosive gas atmospheres typically Hydrogen and Acetylene, at 85 degrees Celsius maximum surface temperature and with increased safety, encapsulation and intrinsic safety protection types.

With similar classifications, the official IECEx certificate number is IECEx DEK 11.0072 with marking Ex e mb [ib] IIC T6 Gb.

Daniel Powell, Product Group Manager at Orga said: “Orga’s system is certified for European ATEX Zone 1 & 2 and IECEx Zone 1 & 2 for this type of helideck lighting. Our global customer base can be assured that Orga’s Circle-H system has been thoroughly examined, analysed and tested to ensure that it meets all design and stringent safety regulations for use in hazardous and hostile industrial environments.”

Orga acquired ATEX and IECEx certification for its Circle&H lighting system in 2012, ahead of the UK CAA incorporating the Circle and H lighting configuration in its internationally acknowledged guidance on standards, CAP 437.

Aware that the industry only has until March 2018 to retrofit the new lighting to all UK offshore helidecks, Powell urges companies to proceed with appropriate caution when procuring the mandatory lighting system.

Powell said: “The Circle and H lighting system must be CAP 437-compliant and certified for use in offshore hazardous areas. Procurement managers must ask to see these certificates. These directives have been put in place to protect the workforce by ensuring that the correct certified safe equipment is installed. Furthermore our system is the only one available which has a proven in service record, with a test programme currently registering more than 6,000 flight landings on the first installed system.”
