Orga Offshore is celebrating after a record-breaking Offshore Technology Conference (OTC 2014) in Houston. Taking centre stage on its stand this year, Orga’s industry-first Circle-H LED touchdown and positioning heliport identification marking system (Circle-H TD/PM) created quite a stir during the four-day event which attracted a 46-year high of 108,300 visitors, the highest in show history.

The perfect platform for showcasing Orga’s innovative products to the offshore oil and gas market, visitors to the OTC 2014 Orga stand were able to view the very latest and best in offshore helideck lighting safety. Developed in collaboration with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA), Orga’s Circle-H TD/PM is designed to radically improve visibility for approaching pilots in all weather conditions.

Now mandatory in British territorial waters from 2018, the new touchdown and positioning system consists of an LED-lit Circle-H, with the touchdown lighting system (H) featuring specially developed long life LED modules built up of seven separate components which together form the full H. The components are semi-flexible and made of low-profile (<25mm) stainless steel plates with a special anti-slip coating. The housing of the LEDs is made of offshore resistant and fully sealed marine plastic of high quality.

The touchdown and positioning marking system is suitable for use in explosive atmospheres of zones 1 and 2 and is fully certified to comply with UK CAA CAP 437; Offshore helicopter landing areas – Guidance on standards, February 2013, chapter 4 and appendix C; IECEx DEK 11.0072; Ex e mb [ib] IIC T6 Gb; IEC 60079-0, IEC 60079-7, IEC 60079-11 and IEC 60079-18.

Daniel Powell, Product Group Manager at Orga said: “The show has been a great success. This event is the biggest show for oil and gas in the world and it has been very beneficial for Orga Offshore to attend. We look forward to continuing our discussions with the many contacts we have made over the last few days.”

Powell is very proud to be bringing the first helideck safety lighting system of its kind to the US market. He said: “The Orga Circle-H system was tested and trialled by the UK CAA and has already proven to boost offshore helicopter safety. The circle and ‘H’ lighting configuration is now incorporated in the UK CAA’s internationally acknowledged guidance on standards, CAP 437, and we are confident that the global offshore oil and gas market will adopt this UK safety initiative for safer offshore helideck landings.”
