Aids to Navigation in Congo

Clients request

Exmar Shipmanagement B.V. contacted Orga late June in 2023 for a new AtoN for their client who are currently developing a floating offshore LNG export terminal in Congo together with ENI. The terminal will use floating liquefaction unit Tango FLNG and LNG Carrier Excalibur. The latter will be serving as storage facility and export tanker from where visiting LNG-Carriers export the LNG-cargo’s abroad.

Their was a wish to install a new Orga Navigational Aids System on board of the vessel Excalibur as part of the terminal. For Tango which had an IALA like system from Tideland the client requested a replacement of the non-Ex Battery Charger Panel for Structure Obstruction Lights (AtoN’s) to an ex-proof version of this panel. This project was handled through the Tideland team at Orga and resulted in upgrading the control panel, Battery Circuit breaker box and battery box.

Challenge

The biggest challenges in this projects where the actual time frame for design, engineering, manufacturing and delivery. Especially for an EX certified navaids system that comprises of both an Orga and Tideland system on 2 vessels, that have to communicate with each other accordingly.

Orga’s solution

To make sure the Orga and Tideland systems are synchronised during operation both systems were fitted with GPS receivers to make this look like both vessels are a single object for the mariner at sea. The Orga standardized Aids to Navigation System design alleviates the detailed design process and our production processes allow for a quick built to order delivery. Based on the configuration of the system we processed this in a timely manner and a close cooperation with the departments within Orga and the client we were able to meet the client expectations.
